In stockmanship we have this phrase . . .

Good movement draws good movement.

It's this thing that happens when we ask a small group of cattle, maybe a single cow, or a pair to move out in a certain direction and their movement draws the whole herd into moving in the same direction.

Good movement happens when we approach the cattle with a positive attitude, read and really listen to what they're telling us, and communicate accordingly.

We don’t approach the aware, flighty cattle the same way we approach the tame, docile cattle. We adjust ourselves, our energy, and approach to communicate with each differently. These self-adjustments help us effectively draw good movement from each, which then draws good movement from the herd.

The same is true for humans. It starts with us.

If we want the kind of effective communication that leads to constructive conversations, it starts with us.

Was it a coincidence that this verse was in the chapter of my Bible I read on the same morning I started listening to (read - devouring) Everybody Always by @bobgoff?

I think not.

And I won’t lie, I’m feeling very called and slightly called out. 😅

The enemy knew right where and exactly when to hit

The enemy knew right where and exactly when to hit me. I was feeling a lot of anxiety, fear, and doubt. And it was rising up to an almost debilitating level.

In that moment I did the only thing I could think to do. I asked friends to pray for me and I opened my Bible app.

I didn’t know what I needed in that moment, so I just when with the verse of the day. But I didn’t stop with just that verse. I read the whole chapter.

Those words were exactly what I needed to hear. (I love it when the Lord blatantly lays it out like that for us.)

Every day since that day, I’ve opened my Bible app first thing after my alarm goes off in the morning and read the entire chapter from wherever the verse that day is coming. I do this before I do anything else, before I’m even out of bed.

I’m not telling you this for a pat on the back or and “atta girl.” I’m telling you because the noticeable difference I’ve experienced in my life in these past 70 days and the work He’s done on/in my heart are just to incredible to keep to myself.

He prayed. Three times He prayed, “My Father,

He prayed.

Three times He prayed, “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; not as I will, but as you will.”

He hung on the cross and cried out, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”

The sorrow and pain in His words - they make Him feel more human, don’t they?

I mean, I know Jesus was fully man. But, that fully God part often overshadows the human part in my heart and mind.

But it’s right there in the red text, He was deeply troubled and fully forsaken. And He bore the sin of world and endured the wrath of God on our behalf.

And I can’t honestly think about what He did for me, for us, without being completely overwhelmed and undone with awe and gratitude.

She picked up a cross her dad had cut out of piece of leather. She held it in her hand for a bit. Then she turned it around and started wielding it like a sword.

“For the Lord your God is he who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies, to give you the victory.” Deuteronomy 20:4

I’d never looked at the cross like that before. But I love her perspective. And I don’t think I’ll look at it the same again.

I didn’t grow up ranching. I grew up on a feed y

I didn’t grow up ranching. I grew up on a feed yard. And the learning curve coming into ranching – it was steep. #sponsored

That might sound silly, “the learning curve was steep,” because it’s all cattle, right? But these two segments of the Beef community are vastly different. And not only did I grow up feeding cattle, I also studied feed yard management in college, and worked for a large feed yard for the better part of a decade prior to moving to the ranch.

I knew how to take care of yearlings and older calves that had been weaned. I knew how to ration, mix, and deliver diets made up of forages, silage, and grain specially formulated by a ruminate nutritionist. I knew how to drive a feed truck and operate a payloader.

I knew the feed yard.

I didn’t know how to take care of cows and their young calves. I didn’t know how to make or execute a grazing plan. I didn’t know what cake was or how to drive a tractor or operate a hay feeder.

I didn’t know ranching.

But what I knew both in the feed yard and on the ranch – what I’ve always known - is that raising Beef takes all kinds of kinds.

It takes the ranchers who care for the cows and their young calves. It takes the farmers who don’t have cows on their farms year-round but graze them on their crop residue for ranchers over the winter. It takes the stockers and backgrounders who specialize in growing freshly weaned calves and getting them ready for the feed yard. It takes the feeders well-versed in feeding cattle and working in the feed yards.

It's all these folks, and others, that make up the Beef community. They’re all a little different and each one has a unique purpose. But ALL have the common goal of raising safe and nutritious Beef. And today, on #NationalAgDay just like every day, I’m proud to play a small role as part of the Beef community.

The good Lord gifted me with the ability to see ma

The good Lord gifted me with the ability to see many sides of situations. He gave me an empathetic heart and the gift of mediation.

For too long, I stayed silent. I hide those gifts, His gifts. I was afraid.

I was afraid to use them because of the hits from the enemy that are sure to come any time we step out in faith, afraid of the temporary conflict I might cause around me and the loss of peace I might feel.

But not anymore.
I’m done hiding.
I’m done ignoring.
I’m done.

“Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is kept safe. Proverbs‬ ‭29:25‬

I’m trusting, taking up my cross and following my Jesus. I’m claiming my gifts and setting out to use them.
