Behaviors are a result. There’s always a motive

Behaviors are a result.

There’s always a motive fueled by experiences, thoughts, and feelings that lead to the action – the behavior.

Whether they're our own or someone else's, there’s always a why behind the behavior. And the why is what matters.

When we stop and consider the why behind behaviors, things like empathy, grace, and kindness come a whole lot easier.

When we curb our judgements and get curious about what’s driving a behavior, we have the opportunity to move forward from a place of knowledge instead of assumption.

Drawing good movement is an art and a science. There isn’t an exact formula.

We aren’t going to get it right every time. We’re going to make mistakes.

But thankfully, since it’s part art, we can Bob Ross the crap out of it and paint some happy little trees when we make mistakes.

You know what Bob Ross’s happy little trees are?

They’re extensions of grace. And there’s a whole lotta grace in good movement.

When we choose self-awareness and start letting go of the hold our egos have on us, we’re able to extend that grace to ourselves and others.

Are you ready to Bob Ross the crap out of the day?

Have you ever had God kindly deliver a kick in the pants just exactly when you need it?

I have.

It happened last weekend. There I was minding my own business at the @cultivating.courageconference listening to my friend @caitlin_a_henderson speak about going body where God has called, when she said, “Our callings are never just about us.”

Our callings are never just about us…

That one sentence immediately brought tears to my eyes, because for a long time I resisted the call to help others draw good movement out of fear of rocking the boat. Even now that I’ve stepped into it, I can find myself dragging my feet on the regular worried that other humans won’t approve.

When those words came out of Caitlin’s mouth, it wasn’t by accident that I was there in that room. It also wasn’t by accident that the morning after I heard Caitlin speak those words, the Bible app verse of the day I read every morning was Galatians 1:10.

“Am I trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.”

Talk about an “oh hi, hello God – I hear you” moment.

All this to say, the Lord is always with us, talking to us. The question is are we quiet enough to hear Him and go boldly where He’s called, or do we need a kind kick in the pants?

“What does that mean, Bob? ‘Til the cows come

“What does that mean, Bob? ‘Til the cows come home.’ Where have the cows been?”

In our case, the cows have been on cornstalks all winter. But because of all this glorious snow we’ve gotten this winter, the cows had to come home about a month and a half earlier than expected.

There here in the hills now and will receive hay until the snow melts enough they can get their graze on.

We poured the heifers, i.e. we put liquid parasiti

We poured the heifers, i.e. we put liquid parasiticide on them to prevent lice (and other parasites) but mostly lice since it is lice season and being lousy makes the heifers itchy and uncomfortable.

As always, our focus was on making the experience as (meaningless) stress free as possible. Our focus was on good movement.
