I did it for selfish reasons.

Remember yesterday when I said that I can’t not see all sides of things?

I say “can’t not” because it’s not a voluntary thing. Even when I know exactly where I stand on an issue, I can also empathize with those who view things differently than I.

I’m also a peacemaker by nature. I hate conflict. It legiterally gives me a gut ache. And honestly, I’m surprised I don’t have an ulcer with all of the division and conflict in our world the past couple of years.

So, I did it for selfish reasons.

I became an enneagram coach for selfish reasons. I feel like if we knew the why behind our behaviors and others, we’d have a better understanding of each other and I’d have fewer gut aches.

A better understanding doesn’t mean we’d always agree. The world would be a pretty boring place if we did. But there’d dang sure be a whole lot more respectful conversation and whole lot less outright division.

The enneagram is a tool that has helped me understand why I behave and react the way I do, and it’s helped me understand the eight other types and ways people view the world. It’s helped me grow in who I am in Christ and become a more empathetic, gracious human.

And I (selfishly) want that for others, so I leaned in and became a coach.

Not everyone has the ability to see any other side

Not everyone has the ability to see any other side than the one they’re standing on.

Did you know that?

I didn’t, until I heard @suzannestabile say it a couple years ago.

Being someone who can’t not (note the double negative) see many sides to any given situation, I had no idea that not every one had that ability. I was always under the impression that everyone could, but chose not to see another side.

But that’s just not the case.

I tell you what, though, having that knowledge has made me a better listener, communicator, and a much more gracious person.

What’s something innate to you that you thought/think everyone can do?

As in, move toward Him. Move into His plan for me. Move forward on the path He’s called me to. Move away from what doesn’t serve His purpose for me.

Move.

That’s my word of the year. And the first teeny, tiny baby step is changing my handle from @faithfamilyandbeef to @terryn.drieling

Christmases for me as a kid went a little something like this… #sponsored

Christmas Eve service at church followed a big helping of chili soup for supper. My brothers and I got to choose and open one gift each on Christmas Eve before settling in for the night. In the morning we’d wake up all excited about the stockings filled to the brim and the presents marked “Santa” that had magically appeared under the tree.

But growing up feed yard kids, we knew we’d have to wait for dad to get in from feeding cattle before we could open anything or go anywhere on Christmas day.

Some years Dad was back before we knew it. Other years, when the snow was deep or the weather was too cold for the equipment to want to start, it seemed like forever before he’d be back. But we all understood the importance of the job and how caring for the cattle always came before the gifts and the holiday travel.

Not much has changed for our kids. Sure, we live on a ranch where the cattle graze and not on a feed yard where their food is delivered, but water and cattle still need checked even on Christmas.

So, we wait.

How I feel after the past couple months... Turns

How I feel after the past couple months...

Turns out taking EMT class such that all the exams fall during fall ranch work or shortly thereafter whilst also working toward an enneagram coaching certification, taking on a new role as board member for @nebraskacattlemen, trying to keep this platform running (complete with annual sale) and the @typeitoutpodcast rolling, working through beastly tech issues, and simultaneously momming, regular ranching, and wifing is a lot.

But the cows are pregged, calves are shipped, I am certified to coach the enneagram, I have my first board meeting under my belt, this platform is still here, the podcast is still running, the tech issues are resolved, kids and husband are still alive, and I just finished my last exam and will hopefully be a Nationally registered EMT before we know it, and I survived. 😅

THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for being here, cheering me on, and supporting me through this fall! I appreciate you beyond words.
