I don’t know if you know this about me, but I grew up on a feed yard. And not just any feed yard, but one where my family has been raising beef for more than 40 years. The feed yard isn’t owned by my family, but my dad still works there today and it’s part of the reason I like to say “if it’s a farm, it’s a family farm.”
After high school, I went off to college and studied feed yard management. I participated in the University of Nebraska’s Feed Yard Management Internship Program and worked at a corporate feed yard for more than seven years. If you hadn’t guessed, feed yards were kinda my thing before I moved to the ranch full-time in 2013.
Anyway, since our Thanksgiving plans were foiled by bad weather, the kids and I made a quick trip home the following weekend. Tripp and I went along with Dad to work.
Watch out latest vlog to see Tagg and I cake cows, find out how heifers at the feed yard get exercised, and take a pop quiz with Tripp on which animals take priority during health checks.
