“The problem I see, is that very few cows are raised according to this poetic description. If we all decreased our beef intake, then we could all share these environmentally friendly Sandhill cows; win win, yes? Making the argument that the beef industry in its current iteration is a good thing for the environment is a stretch that makes rubber bands jealous. I feel for the farmers, absolutely, but this just sounds like super biased hogwash.”

I recently received this comment on my blog post entitled “Will Going Meatless Save the Planet?” And because I have a feeling there are more folks who may have similar questions and concerns, I thought I’d just go ahead and dedicate an entire blog post to my response.

Winter is back. And if I’m being 100 percent honest, I don’t hate it. I actually really enjoy winter.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I mean, I know that’s not a super popular opinion. And, it did throw a wrench in my plans for the week, which included hanging out with my mom while she rocks her third round of chemo tomorrow and meeting my brand new nephew for the first time. But there’s just so dang much beauty in winter (as evidenced by this photo of Bradley’s fuzzy muzzle) that it’s hard for me to not love it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What about you? Do you love winter? Or has it over stayed its welcome in your neck of the woods?⠀⠀⠀

Perspectives – they’re a lot like fingerprints. We’ve all got them and no two are exactly alike.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But, unlike fingerprints, our perspectives are shaped and molded from unique personal experiences as we grow. And we all see life from the only perspective we have – our own.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
While there’s no way for us to know the experiences and events that have shaped someone else’s perspective, there are lots of ways we can work to understand perspectives other than our own.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Remember that next time you see something that sounds absolutely ridiculous to you and proceed with kindness, my friend.

I’ve been lost a little bit here recently.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As you may or may not know, I’ve got goals for FFB – crazy, huge, ridiculous-to-say-out-loud goals. I’ve been hustling behind the scenes, trying different things (things like trying to get Tom’s Steak Rub into Hy-Vee stores) to help push me closer to those goals.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It really seemed like the things I was doing were going to be the ringers that would launch me right into my goals, but alas they weren’t. Nothing I was trying panned out. I felt discouraged and a little lost as to what the next step should be. And to be 100 percent honest, I kind of had a bad attitude about it.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The way I see it is that we have a few options in situations such as these. We can either quit, sit around being discouraged and feeling sorry for ourselves, or we can do something about it.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Quitting isn’t an option for me. And feeling sorry for myself – well, it didn’t sound very appealing either. So, I did something about it. I prayed on it. Then I enlisted the help of a friend/creative/digital marketing genius to shoot me straight, give me the hard truths, bounce ideas off of, and quite frankly help get me out the this damn funk I’ve been in.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And, I’m happy to report that after a brainstorming sesh with the fabulous (and insanely creative) Brooke of Rural Gone Urban, I feel refreshed. I’ve got a set of action steps to take right away. I’ve got a clear(ish) path. I know where I’m headed. And I’m ready to crush some goals.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What about you – what do you do in situations such as these?

If you saw my stories from today, then you know that Mr. FFB bribed me into moving cows with the chance of capturing some gorgeous snowy scenes.

He knows me too well, friend. Too well.
